MAKING ONE'S WAY THROUGH CLIMATE X
2011
Experimental Notations MacArthur b arthur
Oakland, CA
The composition is 35" by 16"
multi-color linocut monoprint on paper
contributing artists: Jesse Eisenhower and Veronica Graham
In order to design a form of notation that could both symbolize and
directly accompany an auditory simulation of wilderness, the artists
thought it would make sense to be as literal as possible. This way the
score could resemble a geographic map providing the listener with a
visual sense of progress while also enhancing the imagined setting
with scale and texture. Graham started the process by carving
notational tiles and stamping out a landscape rife with environmental
impediments. Then, Eisenhower composed a soundtrack to carry the
listener through Graham's foreboding world inspirited with a dogged,
quest-like determination.
